"Sibling Separation Knows No Boundaries"
"The JISU Experience helped me find my sister again and reminded me I'm not alone." – Former Participant
Since 2011, The JISU Experience has
been a steadfast advocate for children
and youth impacted by separation from
their biological or environmental
families due to foster care, kinship care,
adoption, or life circumstances such as
death or divorce.
Rooted in compassion, the organization
is committed to helping siblings
maintain meaningful connections,
nurturing personal identity and creating
pathways to emotional healing and long-term success.
A mother's love sparked a movement for sibling connection.
Maria Jones founded The JISU Experience from deeply personal experience as an adoptive parent. When she adopted her daughter from foster care as a one-year-old, Maria encountered the heart-wrenching reality that many families face—systemic barriers that keep siblings separated even when loving families are ready to embrace them all.
Despite her persistent advocacy, Maria's daughter remains separated from her siblings today. Rather than accept this as inevitable, Maria channeled her determination into creating lasting change. Her personal journey fueled a passionate mission to ensure that other children don't have to endure the pain of sibling separation.
Under Maria's leadership, The JISU Experience has spent over 14 years breaking down barriers and creating pathways for sibling connection, healing, and hope. Her vision continues to drive the organization's commitment to keeping families together and supporting children through every step of their journey.
"Every child deserves the irreplaceable bond of siblinghood—and every parent should fight to preserve it."
